What is AP Media API?

For the first time, you can access all your licensed multimedia content programmatically through a simple API.

The API allows you to receive a continuous feed of news content or perform granular searches across archives of all media types.

  Tip

  • For tighter integration of your system with AP Media API, you can write your own custom program for processing a feed or searching and downloading content. To learn more, see AP Media API Developer documentation.

  • Alternatively, you can use AP Media Agent for automatic downloads of content available via AP Media API feeds.

What type of content is available via AP Media API?

Media types include text/story with linked curated content, pictures, graphics, video and audio.

Accessing content programmatically via the API?

  • 30 days of content is available, as well as the full library of current and archive picture, video, audio and graphics content.

  • AP Media API supports the same content as AP Newsroom, depending on your contract terms.

Using AP Media Agent?

  • Up to the last 72 hours of content is available.

  Note

Please refer to contract information for details and contact your AP Sales or Licensing representative with any questions.

What are AP Media Agent and Configuration Dashboard?

AP Media Agent and configuration dashboard allow you to automatically download a continuous feed of news content available through AP Media API.

AP Media Agent is a Java application for content ingestion. The configuration dashboard is the AP Newsroom module for configuring and managing content ingest agents as well as AP Media API activity monitoring and notifications.

You can download content for your entitlements; for example, products, packages and AP Newsroom personal Followed Topics. Content files and metadata are saved to specified folders watched by your content management system (CMS). Get Started >>

The agent has access to content from up to the last 72 hours.

What is AP Newsroom?

AP Newsroom (newsroom.ap.org) is AP's new multimedia platform, created with input from our customers, which permits you to work "anywhere, anytime, on any device." It is story-centric and enables you to easily find not just the linked media, but also all media content related to AP stories.

AP Newsroom Followed Topics include AP Topics you are interested in and personal Followed Topics, which are user-customizable searches created in AP Newsroom, based upon criteria you select.

You can create personal Followed Topics for your favorite subjects in AP Newsroom and get content feeds for these Followed Topics via AP Media API or AP Media Agent.

  Note

Feeds can be created for personal Followed Topics only (not for AP Topics).

You can also select one or more On-Demand content items of interest in AP Newsroom and have the content automatically delivered to you via AP Media API or AP Media Agent.

What are entitlements?

Entitlements are AP products and packages to which your organization is entitled, personal Followed Topics created in AP Newsroom and On-Demand content items selected in AP Newsroom.

Products

A product is a standard AP news service or report, which is defined by a name, a product ID number and a description; for example, "AP Online National News."

Packages

A package is a bundle of products.

Personal Followed Topics

Personal Followed Topics are user-customizable searches created in AP Newsroom, based upon criteria you select. If you create a feed for a personal Followed Topic feed in AP Newsroom and then ingest the feed using AP Media Agent or AP Media API, any new content matching the search criteria will automatically be sent to your CMS. On-Demand Content

On-Demand allows you to select either an individual story (and, if any, its linked media) or an individual media item in AP Newsroom and have the items automatically delivered via AP Media API or AP Media Agent. Learn more >>
