AP VoteCastThe AP VoteCast API method returns AP VoteCast result files to AP VoteCast subscribers during live elections and test events.
Result FilesAP VoteCast subscribers who receive VoteCast data via Elections API will receive results as separate files for each state and the national survey. The files are provided in the JSON format, using a standard file name convention. Each state survey and the national file use the same overall JSON schema. Each file has a header section that includes details on the file’s survey results, the state where each survey was conducted, how many interviews are in the survey and more.
Data Point VariablesVariables that identify data points such as office type (for example, "President" or "Senate") and race type (for example, "G" for general election) correspond to the values used by the Elections API method, which delivers AP vote count. In all cases possible, codes, labels and variables are shared between AP VoteCast and the AP vote count returned by the Elections API method. Survey QuestionsEach AP VoteCast survey will share the same core set of questions. There is also some variation between surveys, as questionnaires are designed to match the differences in populations and news in each state. A final version of the survey questionnaire will be provided when complete, about a week before Election Day. Draft versions of the questionnaire will be used to generate test data. National Survey DataThe national survey data cannot be filtered by state. State survey results cannot be filtered into smaller, specific geographic units such as county or congressional district. All survey result values should be rounded to whole numbers.
