Office Type ID Updates

The Elections API now returns a unique office type ID (up to three letters) for every race in the Elections response (officeID in JSON; OfficeID in XML).

The office type ID character limit has been expanded from one letter to up to three letters to accommodate unique codes for all office types at the national level (across states).

  1. All one-letter office type IDs that were previously unique at the national level (across all states) remain unchanged:

ID

Office Type

G

Governor

H

U.S. House

I

Ballot Measure (for example, Amendment, Initiative, Issue, Measure, Proposal, Proposition, Referendum or Question)

P

S

Y

Z

  1. All ballot measures, no matter the type (for example, "Question" or "Constitutional Amendment") have an office type ID of "I". A supplemental three-letter ID starting with "I" is also available for each of the ballot measure types in a new additional response field (suppOfficeID in JSON; SuppOfficeID in XML). For additional ballot measure updates, see Ballot Measures.
