Description

During the presidential year, the API provides popular votes and electoral counts at the U.S. national rolled-up summary level for the presidential candidates. Two report types are available:

This table describes the XML elements and attributes used for the presidential votes and electoral count state-by-state results.

Time when this report was generated.

@Test

Indicates whether the data is test data (Test=1) or live election night data (Test=0).

@Office

Candidates’ office name.

@PrecinctsPct

National summary percent precincts reporting.

Cand

Repeating tag for candidate-specific information.

@ElectLead

Number of electoral votes that would be assigned to the candidate if he/she wins the state/district elections where he/she is now leading.

@StatesLead

Number of states in which the candidate is leading. The current definition of leader is the candidate who is leading when no winner has been declared.  This candidate may be leading by one vote. Races where the leading candidates are tied or where no votes have come in are not included.

@ElectWon

Candidate’s national total electoral count; that is, total number of electoral votes the candidate has been assigned in each state as a result of being declared the winner of the state or of districts within a state such as Maine and Nebraska. These are considered "actual" electoral votes.

@StatesWon

Candidate’s total states won; that is, number of states in which the candidate has been declared the winner of the presidential race in that state.

@PopPct

Candidate’s national percentage of the popular vote.

@PopVote

Candidate’s national total popular vote.

@Winner

Optional attribute. Indicates winner status.

@party

Candidate’s party.

@CandID

Unique candidate ID.

@name

Candidate’s last name (or "Others" for all minor candidates grouped together).

The presidential U.S. national rolled-up summary for major candidates and 'Others' provides popular votes and electoral counts at the U.S. national rolled-up summary level for all major candidates and for all "Others" (representing all the minor candidates).
