Alaska Reporting Units
AP Elections is updating and enhancing its election reporting unit (RU) structure in Alaska beginning with the August 18, 2026, primary election. These changes are intended to improve the tabulation and reporting of statewide election results. The new Alaska RUs are available for testing prior to August 18, 2026, election.
Key Changes
AP has introduced 41 new Level 2 RUs that will be used exclusively for tabulating statewide races.
-
40 RUs represent Alaska State House districts (for example, State House District 1 through State House District 40).
-
One additional RU, Overseas Absentee, will be used to report statewide UOCAVA (Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act) results.
Existing RU Structure Remains in Place
The existing Alaska reporting unit structure will remain unchanged. Reporting Unit #2001 Alaska will continue to represent the entire state geographically; however, it will be used only for tabulating local (non-statewide) races.
New Alaska RUs
The new Alaska district RUs, which are used exclusively for statewide races, are listed below. These RUs use non-standard FIPS-style codes prefixed with 99 to distinguish them from official Census Bureau FIPS codes.
